PNW Force Naval 12U spent a productive Sunday at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) in Tacoma, attending a skills camp led by PLU coaches and players before competing in an afternoon scrimmage. The visit gave the young squad a mix of technical instruction, real-game observation, and valuable playing experience on a collegiate field.
PLU coaching staff ran station-based drills focused on hitting mechanics, infield footwork, and situational defense. Collegiate players demonstrated proper throwing techniques, glove work, and plate approach, then worked one-on-one with the athletes to adjust stances and timing. Coaches emphasized fundamentals — posture at the plate, quick transfer on grounders, and communication on the field — leaving the players with clear, actionable improvements.
A highlight of the day was watching a competitive 14U scrimmage. Observing older players helped the 12U team understand game pacing, defensive shifts, and strategic base running. Coaches used moments from the 14U game as teaching points, pausing to explain decision-making and positioning in real time.
After the instructional sessions and observation, PNW Force Naval took the field for their own scrimmage. Applying the day’s lessons, the players showed more confidence at the plate, crisper defensive plays, and better situational awareness. Parents and coaches praised the team’s energy and the immediate impact of collegiate-level mentoring.
The visit to PLU left the 12U squad inspired and better prepared for upcoming tournaments, with new techniques and a clearer sense of what it takes to advance to the next level.
